No inroads have been made as of yet to encourage residents of retirement homes to attend our Sunday service. Bible Classes, to be led by Bob Wagner, will be held before and after the service at 9:00 and 11:45 am. Nursery – Kevin: An applicant for the paid staff position will be interviewed after the service this Sunday. The pay will be for two hours of work per Sunday. Volunteer support people from the congregation will work with the staff person. The volunteers will purchase the necessary supplies. Stefanie and JoElla will design a toddler program to be held in a room adjoining the church school classroom. We will then have a nursery, toddler class and church school. Local Outreach: Following a heated debate regarding outreach objectives and the criteria needed to approach these objectives, it was agreed that work was needed to resolve these issues. Clergy Report –Fr. Kevin: (see attached) Evangelism Workshop: Fr. Alan Hanson of ACTS 29 Ministries is looking to come for a three-day visit to the region. He will be at St. Brendan’s on Tuesday evening November 17. Kevin would like us to consider meeting as a vestry one week earlier, November 12, to facilitate planning and preparing for the workshop. The workshop is open to other Anglican churches in the area. Upcoming Events: All Saints’ Day: Special Celtic Service followed by a potluck in the fellowship hall to commemorate the second anniversary of St. Brendan’s founding. A Christmas Party and potluck will be held on Sunday, December 20 at the Yacht Club. Kevin has suggested a series of Advent services based on God With Us, a series of one page home devotionals. They can be received online via email as well. Clergy Report – Deacon Gerry: Gerry will teach an Adult Inquirer’s Class to be put on the agenda for Lent. He reported on his participation in Habitat for Humanity, a local group that builds houses for people in need. Ministry/Committee Reports: Communication – Kevin: By consensus, due to the change in service time, a new sign is to be made with a larger font. Graham will do the graphics. New Member Ministry – Cavin: The new sign up form for those visiting St. Brendan’s for the first time, is working well. A special effort must be made for a follow up visit to people who attend for the first time. It was agreed that it should be a mix of lay and clergy. A committee for new member ministry is needed. Faith Formation – Gerry: The small group fellowships are off and running. One third of our congregation is attending a small group, a prayer group and/or a Bible Study. Outreach – Cavin: St. Brendan’s is hosting a dinner at the Lakeway Inn on Friday, November 20 to celebrate Five Talents’ ten years of uniting communities in some of the poorest and riskiest places in the world. The Rev. Thomas Anei from the Sudan will be the guest speaker. David distributed a card listing local sources and locations for shelter and food which can be given in lieu of money, to people seeking help. Pastoral Care – Kevin: Kevin praised Gerry and the congregation for stepping up while he was absent due to illness. Worship – Kevin: Appreciation has been expressed for our new worship booklet. Other Business – Kevin: At the Lighthouse Mission’s annual meeting, St. Brendan’s was given special recognition in appreciation for the volunteer service time several of our members are giving to the Light House Mission. Fr. Kevin had the honor of accepting their thanks and appreciation in the name of St. Brendan’s. Closing Prayer was led by Gerry. Respectfully submitted, Susan Hess |
