Facilities – Curry:
To accomplish our discipleship goals in considering our special needs, our desire is to operate more effectively by having access to common church facilities (i.e. library, small group rooms, meeting halls, prayer rooms, etc.)  We suggest additional space needs be considered to accommodate our on-going programs.  Primary needs are:

  • Library/small group meeting room to accommodate up to 12 people.
  • Office for Kevin+; imperative now that he will soon be consecrated bishop.
  • Adjacent office space for Gerry+/administrative assistant.
  • Prayer/meeting area to accommodate up to 25-30 people.

There are tenant issues to be worked out with the SDA Church if we stay there long term.

Darlene stated that we need a toddler room this year to be adjacent to our current Sunday School room.

Various options were discussed.  It was agreed to prayerfully consider our current and future space needs and email our issues to Bruce.

Consecration Transportation – Bruce:

Kevin’s+ consecration will take place in the Tacoma area, however the location is yet to be determined.  The diocese will most likely subsidize the chartering of a bus to make the trip down for the event.

Vestry Objectives 2011-12

Hire Family/Youth Minister – Kevin+, Bruce, Cavin, Gerry+

Brittney Lundberg, our current nursery person, will work as our Sunday School leader for the first quarter or longer, until we can hire a family/youth minister.  Brittney is an education major at WWU.  It was proposed that she would be paid $15.00 per hour for two hours on Sunday plus two hours prep time per week.  It was moved and seconded (JoElla/Curry) that we fund the position up to $60.00 per week plus tax.  Motion carried.

A-Z Church Life – Kevin+, Gerry+, Mary, David

Many ideas were brainstormed at the committee meeting.  See attached handout.  Several suggestions that stood out:

·         Class for confirmands.  4-5 sessions maybe twice per year as a way to assist vestry members to be fully invested in their Anglican faith.

·         Nurturing of seniors.  Aside from the spiritual, the social aspect was addressed by David.  He has offered to assume the responsibility of a suggested once per month afternoon tea with cards/games, video or simply socializing, as well as rides to church functions and after dark.

·         Maddie will begin producing a quarterly parish newsletter.

·         Re convene small group leaders meetings.

Discipleship Education – Gerry+, Curry, JoElla, Darlene, Bruce, Cavin

See attached handout.

“We affirmed that we desire to operate under St. Brendan’s Vision Statement to offer programs and support aids that would support the people of St. Brendan’s to be a growing community of disciples empowered by the Holy Spirit, offering the love of Jesus to all, and to bring many to know, love and serve our Lord, and to apply our spiritual gifts to build the Body of Christ.”

Topics discussed at the committee meeting were:

  • St. Brendan’s sponsored special teachings/seminars

  • Small group dynamics

  • Intercessory prayer ministry teachings

Marriage Ministry – Kevin+, Hugh, Mary, Cavin, Graham

See attached handout.

Members expressed the desire to see St. Brendan’s as a place where people seeking advice about marriage or suffering from problems in their own marriage would find support, encouragement and biblically based information that might help them.  Possible groups to target are pre married singles, married and re-married, divorced singles.  Several ideas discussed were:

  • Marriage mentorship group of selected couples from St. B’s to mentor youth/singles and existing marriages.

  • A possible event for high school and middle school students utilizing curriculum and a facilitator from WWU’s Campus Christian Fellowship.

  • Anonymous on-line chat forum for individuals seeking advice.

Clergy Report – Fr. Kevin+

Kevin+ appreciates the prayers being offered by St. Brendan’s on behalf of his sister Rosemary and his father John.

Kevin+ and Gerry+ plan to begin a healing service.

He heard good reports regarding Gerry’s+ “holding forth” during his absence.

Kevin+ and Gerry+ will make contingency plans for a lay led service when both rectors are absent.

Clergy Report – Gerry+

Gerry+ had no report at this time.

Other Business:

Darlene shared the new calendar that will display special dates and events which will segue with Maddie’s quarterly newsletter.  Maddie is willing to update and maintain calendar.

Alpha update:

Cavin stated that people are being appointed for various tasks.  Curry is helping with handouts.  Two ads will be put in the Herald.

An optional youth curriculum to run simultaneously with Alpha video is available.

Cavin observed that church directory needs to be updated.

Closing Prayer was offered by Gerry+ with special intercession for Bishop Boyce and his wife Cathie.  The Lord’s Prayer was said in unison.

Respectfully submitted,

Susan Hess, Vestry Clerk
