Vestry Objectives for 2011-12:

Family & Youth Minister – Kevin+, Gerry+, Bruce and Cavin

JoElla sent the following thoughts regarding:

If the position is to be in place by September, it is very important to get moving on this, in light of the ideas thrown around i.e. ordained, youth minister, advertising widely, part-time bio-vocational.  This may be out of reach and we may need to discuss a plan B for Sunday School and youth for the fall.

I think it would do a great deal of good to ask for parental input on the position and the ministry.  When I interviewed regularly-attending families about our ministries for children earlier this year, there were a lot of suggestions and concerns.

There are no updates at this time.

A-Z in Christian walk, corporate education & identity – Mary, David, Kevin+ and Gerry+

Discipleship Education – Curry, JoElla, Darlene, Bruce, Cavin and Gerry+

Inquirer’s Class has started.  It is meeting at 9:00 am following the 8:00 am Sunday morning service.

Clergy Report – Kevin+

Clergy Report – Gerry+

Inquirer’s Class has begun.  Copies of the Book of Common Prayer 2011, prepared for Bishop Boyce, have been ordered.  This Book is for trial use by the REC and ACNA for liturgical review.

Other Business – Mary

We need to make a better attempt to make the congregation aware of vestry meetings.  This can be done by posting the agenda in advance and to be more judicious about posting the minutes once they’re approved by Vestry.

It was agreed that hereafter Bruce will have Susan sign the reimbursement checks that pertain to either Bruce or Caryol Litherland.

The subject of giving financial support to Judy Ochola to further her education was discussed.  Darlene and Bob Wagner and Misty and Cavin Philbin talked with Judy.  She wishes to get an AA degree in general arts & sciences.  Her goal is a management position in tourism in Kenya.  Her Fulbright Scholarship will expire in June 2011.  She will need approximately $12,000 which includes room & board and tuition, to complete her AA at BCC.  A vote could not be taken as there were an insufficient number of very members present to make a quorum.  Bruce e-mailed the following motion to all vestry members:

“Whereas Judy Ochola has been an active member of St. Brendan’s and she has demonstrated a need for financial aid to continue her college education, it is resolved that the Vestry will provide $4,000 in financial aid to Judy Ochola in support of her tuition, room and board, provided she obtain a visa to return to Bellingham in August.  These funds will be taken from the Outreach Vestry Discretionary Fund.”

Vestry members were requested to vote yes or no by return e-mail.

The next vestry meeting will be July 21, 6:009 pm at the SDA Church.

Respectfully submitted,

Susan Hess

Vestry Clerk
