Vestry Objectives for 2010-2011:

            Alpha – Curry:

Our first Alpha Program was a positive experience; many intangibles but solid benefits.  We touched the youth and the unchurched, one person expressed an interest in being baptized and our congregation made a strong contribution in the necessary staffing and ministry work.  It was agreed that we need a parish meeting to discuss the possibility of another Alpha Program.  Kevin+ will email a date for the parish meeting within two weeks.  It was moved and seconded (Cavin/JoElla) that Vestry express its gratitude to Barbara and Curry Miles for the effort, leadership and organization they put into making the Alpha Program successful.  Motion carried.

Alternative Vestry Fellowship Meeting:

Our next meeting, February 17, will be a spiritual meeting. We will share a meal, pray together and study scripture.

Focus on Young Families, Youth and Singles – JoElla:

A questionnaire has been prepared to distribute.  The questionnaire asks what it is that we are doing well and what we can improve on.  The results will be shared with the congregation to collectively determine how we can address them.  Also, a bookmark brochure is being made to distribute.

Clergy Report – Kevin+:

The First Communion that was held last Sunday, January 16, was very successful.

On March 5 there will be a workshop on spirituality and giving led by Bishop John Guernsey and Canon Rev. Daryl Fenton.

On May 13 & 14 Dr. George Hunter author of The Celtic Way of Evangelism, will speak at Cascadia’s Synod.  This will be a useful focus for our Lenten study.

On August 12 there will be a diocesan picnic and festival service celebration.

September 24 is the possible consecration date for bishop elect, the Rev. Kevin Bond Allen.

Clergy Report – Gerry+:

February 2 and March 20 are preaching dates for Gerry+.

Gerry+ hopes to put together an Inquirer’s Class for Lent.

Anglican 4th Day, our first Diocesan Ultreya, was held on Saturday, January 8 at St. Stephens’ Oak Harbor.  Cursillistas from across the DOC attended.  A steering committee was formed to begin planning for our first Cascadia Anglican 4th Day weekend.

Election of Vestry Members:

Three members, Trevor, Moheb and Cavin, are rotating off Vestry.

III-3.2 of our by-laws states that the outgoing members of Vestry and the Rector shall serve as the Nominating Committee for the election of new members to Vestry at the upcoming Annual Meeting.  Moheb Ghali was selected by Vestry to chair the Nominating Committee.

III-3.4 of the by-laws states that the Nominating Committee shall meet at least 45 days prior to the Annual Meeting to consider members for nomination to the Vestry to be presented at the Annual Meeting.  These recommendations shall be presented in writing or by announcement by the chairperson at the two Sundays preceding the election meeting to the members of the Church.  The Nominating Committee shall present at least one nominee for each vacancy to be filled.  Outgoing Vestry Members may nominate themselves as candidates provided there is no conflict with III-3.4.

III-3.4 states that members of the Church may nominate potential candidates for election to the Vestry in writing addressed to the Secretary of the Vestry and submitted at least three weeks prior to said Annual Meeting; provided however, that all such nominations must be seconded in writing by another member of the Church and the nominee must agree in writing to be nominated.

The Annual Meeting will be on Sunday May 22.

Other Business:

It was moved and seconded (Curry/Graham) that St. Brendan’s will sponsor Relay for Life up to $1,000.

The question was raised by Susan as to why we don’t display the American flag at our Sunday services.  Since interest has been expressed by several members of the congregation, it was decided to display the flag in its stand at the back of the nave this coming Sunday, January 23.

Closing Prayer was shared by a laying on of hands for Bruce who will be undergoing open heart surgery soon.

Respectfully submitted,

Susan Hess

Vestry Clerk
