St. Brendan’s Vestry Retreat Saturday
June 6th, 2009 WHAT DO YOU WANT YOUR CHURCH TO BE LIKE IN FIVE YEARS? Gerry – Have a place of our own; begin to create a heritage. Plant new churches in the county. Create ecumenical ties to other Christian groups. Jan – Remain Christ centered and orthodox; maintain our intimate relationship. Pam – Become a model for a mission church to bring people to Christ through evangelism and service. Cavin – Be partners in local and global evangelism; to maintain a dynamic missionary model to the world. Dan – Since 20% of our population is college students, to establish a college ministry (David Nelson) with education and bible study that remains centered in orthodoxy. Trevor – To become as well known as Christ the King but minus the coffee during the worship service! Sharon – We must cultivate more young families as the church leadership must become younger; we must develop a succession plan. Robert – Own our own home…facilities campaign? Kevin+ - Mentoring people to become elders to lead groups through a fully developed program of eldership and discipleship. Bruce – Stay at SPA as long as possible; obtain a new facility that will hold two services of 100, then plant a new church. HOUSEKEEPING:

Models: Regional church planting Culture of intimate fellowship Small group model Discipleship Mission oriented but open to where the Spirit moves us What do we want our church to be like in five years? Satellite Team Model: Size 450 congregation, then plant new church Families and children, drive down the average age of the church Elder ministry Not ‘temple’ oriented; stay focused on outreach and mission…Alpha Program THREE GOALS FOR 2008-09: 1. Family/children ministry (will require creating a nursery) 2. Faith formation 3. Evangelism
